What a hockey pool is
A hockey pool is a season-long game for a group of fans. Each member builds a roster of NHL players, earns fantasy points from what those players do in real games, and the highest total at the top of the standings wins bragging rights.
Running one by hand means a spreadsheet, a box score every morning and a lot of arguments. PuckPool keeps the rosters, counts the points from real NHL stats and updates the standings for you, so the commissioner gets to enjoy the season too.
Three formats
Each pool uses one format. The commissioner picks it when creating the pool.
Open pool
An Open pool is a hockey pool where every entry picks its own NHL players before the deadline, and the same player can be on every roster. Best for: friends, families and first-time pools.
Box pool
A Box pool is a hockey pool where the commissioner sorts players into boxes and every entry chooses a set number of players from each box. Best for: office pools and big groups.
Draft pool
A Draft pool is a hockey pool where members take turns in a snake draft, so every NHL player can belong to only one team in the pool. Best for: groups that want a draft night.
What PuckPool does for you
- Standings that move during games. Stats are checked about every 20 seconds while games are on, and the standings update when points change.
- Scoring you can explain. Pick the Standard or Simple preset, or let the commissioner set custom values. See the scoring tables.
- A real draft night. Draft pools run a snake draft with an optional pick clock and a private queue, so nobody holds up the room.
- Pool chat. Talk it over with @mentions, emoji reactions, polls and a thread for each game your players are in.
- Works on your phone. PuckPool runs in any modern browser, on a phone or a computer. There is nothing to install.
Office pools
PuckPool works well for an office hockey pool. Invite coworkers with a link, a code or an email invitation, and there is no member limit. Box pools keep things fair for a big group because everyone chooses from the same boxes. The commissioner can set a deadline, fix a roster or adjust points with a reason, and every change is recorded in the pool’s audit log.
PuckPool never takes payments or pays out prizes, and it is not for gambling. It is a free way to keep score.
