Box pool
A Box pool is a hockey pool where the commissioner sorts players into boxes and every entry chooses a set number of players from each box.

The rules
The commissioner builds the boxes: groups of NHL players, for example the top centres in one box, a mix of wingers in another and the starting goalies in a third. A player can appear in only one box.
Each box says how many players to choose from it. In a “choose 1” box you take one player; in a “choose 2” box, two. A box always holds more players than it asks for, so there is always a real choice. Your entry is complete when every box has its picks.
Picks are not exclusive between entries: two people can take the same player from a box. Until the deadline you can change your picks as often as you like. After it, only the commissioners can change a roster, and every change is recorded in the pool’s audit log. The boxes themselves lock once the first pick is made, so nobody can move players around mid-season.
Who it’s for
Box pools are a classic for office pools and big groups. Everyone chooses from the same boxes, so when the stars share a box nobody can have them all, and people who don’t follow every team still have a fair shot.

Box pools score like every PuckPool pool: your players’ regular-season games earn fantasy points under the Standard preset, the Simple preset or the commissioner’s own values, and the standings rank entries by total points. See the full scoring tables.
How to start a Box pool
- Create a free account and choose Create a pool.
- Pick Box pool, name it, choose a scoring preset and set the deadline.
- Build your boxes and set how many players to choose from each.
- Invite your group; everyone fills every box before the deadline.
